Cultivating Mindfulness and Compassion
I grew up in a Mahayana Buddhist family in Japan watching my grandmother and mother recite a sutra in front of the home altar. I went to a two-year Buddhism-based vocational college in Tokyo where I learned how to recite a sutra as contemplative meditation and studied the Mahayana texts. I came to realize living the Bodhisattva path is what I feel true to myself.
I moved to Vancouver, Canada in 2005, curious and interested in discovering how ancient Eastern wisdom can benefit people living in the Western culture. I joined the 2-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certificate Program offered by two Buddhist psychologists, Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, in 2023, and learned how the practice of mindfulness and compassion can transform people’s lives so deeply. To further deepen my mindfulness teaching training, I completed the Mindfulness Mentor Training offered by Banyan which was co-founded by the same teachers. Now I feel ready to make these teachings available to you and support you on the path of mindfulness.
Other than spending time learning and sharing the mindfulness practices and the Dharma, I enjoy taking ballet lessons, eating good vegetarian meals, and spending time in nature with my husband.

"Mitsuyo brings heartfelt kindness, expansive curiosity, and a deep commitment to service to her calling as a mindfulness teacher. What I mean by this is that her sense of embodied, compassionate care for each of her students is palpable, and she listens to understand rather than reply, taking in each question and comment with genuine interest and openness. Mitsuyo is also unwaveringly dedicated to this path of awareness and compassion: she continuously seeks out guidance and resources that will strengthen her capacities as a teacher-practitioner, so that she can more skillfully support those who are lucky enough to find their way to her classes. May Mitsuyo continue to teach for many years to come so that as many people as possible can benefit!"
